![]() The biggest thing that sets LastPass apart is its generous free plan, which offers all the features many users need. One of 1Password’s biggest competitors is LastPass. Why would you consider using an alternative? Here are a few reasons a different app may suit you better. ![]() ![]() Is 1Password the best solution for you and your business?ġPassword is popular and works well. ![]() But it’s not the only app that can do so. In short, it enables you to maintain safer passwords without the usual effort and frustration. It also warns you if any of the web services you use have been hacked, then prompts you to change your password immediately. The app stores your private documents and personal information. That means there’s only one password you need to remember: 1Password’s master password. All of your passwords will be synced across devices so they’re available whenever you need them. It can learn new passwords by watching you log in and create a strong, unique password whenever you create a new login on a website or app. A 1Password subscription costs $35.88/year or $59.88 for families.ġPassword automatically fills in your username and password at any login screen. It has cultivated a strong following from the Mac community over several years and is now available for Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, iOS, and Android. If one of your accounts is hacked, you’ve given away access to all of them! Creating a strong, unique password for every website is a lot of work, but password managers make it achievable.ġPassword is one of the most popular apps out there. It’s convenient but makes life too easy for hackers and identity thieves. So it appears that AgileBits is providing older users with silent license updates to use 1P v6.Too many people use the same easy-to-remember password for every website. Came home, got on the iMac, launched iP, checked the version (v6) and then the license status - got the following: "Your 1Password 6 license entitles you to use 1Password 4 and 5 as well which use the same license file as 1Password 6."Įdited 1 time(s). Did they automatically promote v4 owners to maintain compatibility with the latest OS?įrom the bottom of my 1P v6 license (I last purchased v3 with a free upgrade to v4 when available: I thought I only had through version 4 (because I'm still on Mavs), but I just noticed that my wife is running v6 in El Cap on her laptop, and when I typed my email into the website for license recovery, it shows v6. I downloaded and installed the 30 day standalone trial - I just realized it's been well over thirty days since that install and the app is still providing full functionality! Went to AgileBit's site and learned about their new focus on the subscription model. The version of 1Password I was running under Mavericks on my laptop will not run under Sierra, so I figured it was (finally!) time to upgrade. I went through this exercise with my recent purchase of a new iMac. Yep, still available as a standalone product. They do hide it, but you can still buy it. However, I went through the search process and did find the license product. I think you need a monopoly position to get away with it, but it works for shareholders. But I need to point out that Adobe stock has at least tripled since they went subscription. They are really trying to push the subscription model. Thus this new search so I can edit my how-to training manuals, and give a new alternative to my team.Īgilebits announced this last summer, touting their new cloud-based backup and synching. I have zero tolerance for that kind of thing. But instead I got the weirdest run around and then the passive aggressive email exchange. A simple straight-forward answer of "we are no longer supporting and offering a standalone" would've sufficed. I wrote Agilebits, requesting the URL for their standalone app, and the responses back were appalling. It's more come up because I was giving a training last week to my team, and I mentioned the importance of a password system (so that people wouldn't have to look up passwords, forget passwords, create silly short passwords, the basic litany), and the flood of emails back from the team, all saying, "we can't find the standalone app." That's what really got this ball moving. Not worth worrying about unless both flavors have issues. I'm taking my time about it since the Mac and iOS apps are dandy for me in their current form. No need to rush out and find a replacement. I doubt that means the copies you own right now will be rendered unusable. Eliminating the app in a year or two is one thing.
